Occasionally there are people in life that you will always be grateful to have met. Hussein is one of those people for me. Having tried to deal with back injury through physiotherapy and many a bottle of Robaxacet, I felt that the progress I was making was done at a glacial pace. I joined the gym to keep active and perform the stretches the physiotherapists had recommended. For a year I debated with myself about personal training, anxious that I would be another client placed in a one-size-fits-all training regime. Having kept an open eye I noticed something unique to Hussein’s clients; each one appeared just as happy to see him when they arrived for their session as they would when they left. This focused my attention on his services specifically.
In first talking with Hussein he reassured me that we would take things slowly and make sure that we find the routine for me. Hussein explained that there are basic movement patterns that practically everyone should be able to do. Expressing my concerns about having a chronic injury, he explained that it’s his role to help the client progress to successfully being able to perform these movements. Today I am able to perform nearly all the basic movement patterns. It took nearly 6 months to get to the point of no longer using Robaxacet and I no longer feel the need to go to physiotherapy. Most importantly though, my friends and family have noticed that I’m happier and less likely to decline going out and trying new activities. Having come from a family where water-skiing is the summer activity, I look forward to rejoining my cousins behind the boat. Each week I look forward to going to the gym and being welcomed with a big and heartfelt hug, before we talk about challenges throughout the week and what goals I have for the future. I will always be grateful for the lessons we have learned together and how Hussein has helped instill an unwavering sense of self-efficacy.
